The British North America Act (now known as the Constitution Act) was enacted on July 1st 1867 and united the British colonies in North America as a single dominion within the British Empire known as Canada. This began the long and gradual process of Canadian independence, with increasing levels of self government.
Canada is a settler state built on indigenous land without the consent of its original inhabitants, who have been forcibly assimilated into white Canadian society. I believe in using Canada Day to reflect on our history and going forward work to make a better Canada.
